The principle behind Collagen Induction Therapy, also called Skin Needling, is simple: to stimulate the body's own production of collagen. This is accomplished by causing a minute injury to the dermis, which results in the start of the wound healing cascade.
The instrument used is an automated micro-needling device comprised of a series of fine, sterile needles, which are used to puncture the skin and create micro-channels on the skin surface to promote collagen formation.
Results last long, especially after a few sessions have been achieved. Also, results improve as the body takes time to generate new collagen. The patient will see continual improvement as well as immediate improvement. The procedure may take about 15 minutes to over an hour, depending on the area to be treated, and the skin vitamins to be infused post-procedure. The patient must be anesthetized, usually with a topical cream that helps with the patient’s comfort.
It is very important that the patients continue to use topical vitamins A, C, and D after treatment to ensure the production of healthy collagen and elastin.
